Confirm embassy procedures

Check the current US Embassy or Consulate guidance for the declaration or affidavit used to confirm legal capacity to marry. Appointment systems, fees and acceptable supporting records can change.

Collect supporting records

Prepare a valid passport, immigration entry evidence, address information and records from any previous marriage. Bring original or certified documents where required and keep names consistent.

Arrange Thai translation

The district office will usually need Thai-language documents. Use a qualified translator and confirm whether the translated and embassy-issued documents require legalization by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Coordinate with the district office

District offices can apply administrative requirements differently. Confirm the exact checklist, appointment process, interpreter needs and witness policy directly with the office you will use.

Plan immigration separately

A registered marriage may support a spouse-based application, but it does not itself grant permission to remain or work. Prepare immigration evidence on its own timeline and verify current requirements with Thai Immigration.
